I was asked to share how we take care of our outdoor classroom and garden during the summer.
Five years ago we started offering Co-op memberships for $225 a family. The raised beds grow food in the back 40' by 60' space in the outdoor classroom. This money is used for supplies and employing students for summer jobs. Students work three days a week from 8-12 and families pickup for 10 weeks and two early spring pickups. Last summer we grew over a ton of food.
local newspaper and county shopper magazine helps make the community aware of the program. We also provide two free memberships to our local wonen's shelter.
