Does anyone have experience planting a 3 sisters garden with children? We will be planting in a 4'x8' raised bed and not sure if there are specific tips for that. I also welcome culturally relevant resources and materials to explain the process.

    Thank you!

    Hi Alissa,

Yes, we have done a 3 Sisters garden.  Plant your corn first and let it get a few inches tall before you plant the beans.  Then put in the squash about 10 days after the beans.

There are lots of great resources for it.

This was put together by the Smithsonian in conjunction with the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois)

This is from an Onandowaga (Seneca) historic site in New York.

From the Eastern Band of the Ani Yunwiya (Cherokee)

From the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

If you would like Cherokee Gourd Corn seed I can send you some!  We also have a wonderful one called Cocke's Prolific that was bred out of the Cherokee Gourd Corn.  I guess I should mention that our historic site we do grow outs of heirloom veggies that were "lost" and that are being reintroduced.

    All the best,
