    Hello All!

My name is John Gundrum from Growing Bridgeport Together located in Bridgeport, PA!

Our organization is looking to start a kids gardening program and this seemed to be the best resource for this. We just started looking building this so any help in pointing us into the right directions would be greatly appreciated.  There is so much here that it can get a little overwhelming - in a good way :)

Initially we are looking to establish a program to start next year. This program would support the pollinator garden that was planted last year by the municipality. Getting the kids in the community involved would be such a great thing.

Additionally, are there any resources out there for finding grants for new programs?

Thank you for this wonderful resource and collaborative community!

    John

    Hi JOhn,

You found the best resource already!

Going on RIGHT NOW is the National Children and Youth Garden Symposium.  This year's conference is virtual again, but generally it is in person. Registration is $70 and it's all recorded.

County and state extension offices often have good resources.

The Whole Kids Foundation has lesson plans and grants.

    Welcome.

    Hi John,
Look into your local county Master Gardener Association.
They can be a tremendous resource for you.

Welcome John! So glad to have you here and can't wait to follow along as you get a kids garden program started - so exciting!

I second Peggy and Michelle's suggestions to get in touch with local extension offices and master gardeners for help with specific local challenges and longer term support.

Do you have any specific questions for getting started? It sounds like the garden is already established so wondering what info could be helpful for folks here to share...

    • Ideas for building awareness/getting participants for the kids program?
    • Pollinator garden specific activities?
    • Sample structure for a kids program?
Would love to know what you're thinking for the program so far.

P.S. Totally optional but might be helpful to edit the subject line to something more specific for anyone searching the discussions. Could help get more responses!
