What's everyone's favorite methods for planning out their gardens each year?
Any good resources or websites that help keep things organized?

There is also an app called From Seed to Spoon that is helpful if you like using your phone or tablet out in the garden for records!

One of our staff members discovered VegPlotter and shared it with us this year. Very handy and intuitive visual planning tool.

Hello - This is a free planner from Gardener's Supply that kids love to use (and adults) but it's also a great teaching tool.

Here's the garden planner link here

Just wanted to add a note on the recommendation for the free online Kitchen Garden Planner

There are about 30 plus Pre-Planned gardens, however, the 'Design Your Own' won't be back up for a few months.   It recommends the # of plants per square foot  and a care schedule.

I've used this planner in countless community garden workshops/presentations and kids could still design their own with it - using the square foot method - it would just have to be on paper.     It's also great for educators new to gardening.   Thanks!

    Hi - Cool apps guys!

I have a 40 by 30 plot at the community garden and  I never planned or organized a garden  before!  My current second grade class is growing the seeds now.  We started in March in Jiffy greenhouses.  NOW everything is at my house because of Spring Break and Virtual Closure!

For planning... I was going to go old school and have my kids draw a map of the garden on paper.  Or I could even take them outside and chalk it out on the blacktop.  Real world application for measurement...We have talked about making arrays.  We have 48 tomato plants...and they are in a jiffy greenhouse of 8 rows of 6.  We are only measuring growth at this time.  Our tomatoes are 2- 3 inches tall.  (Ummm...anyone need a tomato plant?)  lol!

The 23 cucumbers we planted were transplanted out of the greenhouse and are 5-6 inches tall.  The arm, vine, things are going to show up and reach out to tangle something any minute!    As far as organization, the class came up with some names using alliteration and later we will paint signs ...Cucumber corner, Tomato Town, Peas Paradise, Lima Lane, Peppers Precinct and Sunflower City.   What goes with the herb garden?  Oregano, dill, basil, parsley -----hmmm?

The most fun will be knees in the dirt, hands in the soil, sun on our shoulders!

    Lynne,

I love your idea of chalking it out on the blacktop. Drawing it to scale would be a great visual for my learners! Also a huge fan of alliteration and incorporating some ELA into your gardening plans. Thanks for sharing!
