  • 1.  Innovative gardening ideas for a school with little land

    Hi there,
I am writing to you for some urban school garden ideas.  The state I live in (Vermont) is very rural but the school I work at is in a neighborhood and downtown. We have very little land to garden on and I am looking to do a deep dive into innovated ideas from some urban schools that I assume have similar space issues.  I believe I am a decent gardener but I am used to having a good amount of space to work with.  Would love to hear and see your creative ideas!
    Thanks!

Hello Jody!  In my experience, you can grow most vegetables, flowers, herbs in containers!  Remember to allow for proper drainage.

A "container" can be anything!  Old spare tires, barrels, wheelbarrows, old furniture - being creative also adds to the visual interest and saves money!

    Hi Jody,

I would go with raised beds -- there are lots of really easy designs online -- and, since you are in Vermont, plan on row covers or similar to extend the season.  Check out Johnnys Seeds for row cover ideas.
