hello garden teachers! Looking for tips / suggestions for direct sowing seeds with ages 2-4. I am in NE so we can now do some cold weather thinfs - lettuce, kale, snap peas, some annual flowers…. would love tips for how to make it fun and manageable  for the little fingers and early fine motor skills.

We like to use spice shakers or parmesan cheese containers for small things like lettuce and carrot seed, and to mix them with about 3 parts sand for 1 part seeds so that little ones can broadcast sow without crowding.

Hi Cathy! We briefly talked about planting with young kids during one of our previous Community Chats. A few ideas were shared that might be helpful and we also talked a little bit about planting with groups of kids, too. The recording is here and the time stamp is included so you can jump ahead to that part!

I like to save empty glitter jars or spice jars for the seeds.  The children like to "sprinkle" seeds and they don't all end up in one spot.
