I am starting a community garden at a Pre-K and Kindergarten school with 12 Kindergarten students and 14 Preschool students. For our first introduction meeting, I'll bring cat grass seeds, and we'll make fun planting cups with faces so the "grass hair" can grow. I'm also bringing the garden beds, even though we won't begin planting outside until the spring.
Do you have suggestions for what else I should do or say at our first meet-up with the children? I'd also like to send something home with the kids to inform parents about the new school garden. Since this is my first time leading a project like this, I'd love ideas on what would be best to share with families.
    Thankyou in advance,

    Hi Jayanne!

I teach art and gardening to students 3 yrs through 5th grade.  We enjoyed a fun activity or "eat it and plant it". I purchased different varieties of organic cherry tomatoes.  Wash them and pass one out to each child with a napkin underneath.  Children eat over the napkin and some seeds will burst out.  We plant the napkins in the soil (remove extra napkin layers). It's a good way to teach the little ones about composting, seed saving, and planting.  I also have little magnifying glasses for the kids.  They love using them and makes for great pics and grant opportunity photos :)
