Our preschoolers just completed raising monarch butterflies last week. We released a little over forty healthy monarch butterflies. We grew native milkweed in containers for the monarch butterfly lay her eggs. We waited and watched for tiny caterpillars and continued to keep plenty of milkweeds available. The children were excited to watch the chrysalis form, and then we had to wait almost 10-12 days for the monarchs to emerge, which was so worth the wait. We were fortunate to have raised and released over 40 butterflies. Such an exciting time to start our school year and to be able to release them to fly away.
