Here are my lesson plans, not really a curriculum, of the lessons I do with my school. I listed them by grade. There are descriptions of some of the lessons. I also garden, harvest, plant and more with the kids. This is a volunteer position for me. I took over the school garden about 22 years ago while I was a full time special education teacher. I retired this past June and take every class out for 30 to 40 minutes a week. Most of these lessons are not my creation. I have attended many workshops and some webinars. You will notice that some of these lessons are from kidsgardening.org, UC Santa Cruz Life Lab, Green Schoolyards America (great group), the Edible Schoolyard in Berkeley, UC Davis Children.s Garden, and a local urban education farm here in Sacramento. I did modify most of the lesson to fit my time constraints and to match our population. 80% of the kids are low income, many in apartments. About 23% are students with mild to severe special needs (many are in the general education setting all day with support.) and about 30% are refugees or immigrants. Most of our kids are not academically at grade level so I need to do a lot of preteaching of new concepts, new vocabluary, provide pictures and handmade posters. Please take what is useful for you. Move activities to different grades if needed. All grades enjoy journaling, scavenger hunts, and taking nature walks.
