For those considering a school orchard, we have one at Sharpstown High School in Houston, but there have been several roadblocks to success. It began with a donation from the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, which provided trees and irrigation, but the original water source was not close and had to be connected by a very long hose. Irregular watering caused several to die, and we lost more in the freeze of 2021, but the biggest problem was that the school maintenance crew destroyed most of the irrigation, which had only been laid on top of the ground. We now have an ag science teacher, trees are marked (the crew used a weedeater on some), and the irrigation heads are blocked off. If you decide to start an orchard, be sure to get varieties that are appropriate for your area, have a ready water supply, and clearly mark any young trees. Good luck! Ours is finally starting to pay off.

I'm sorry I don't know of any curriculum for school orchards. But your question has me curious about "school orchards". Do you have one? I would love to know more. I work for a non profit that owns some land that is being evaluated for growing possibilities. We're in dream, brainstorm mode but one idea is food bearing trees and shrubs. Thanks for sharing any info. And I hope others can provide good resources for you!
