    Hi there,

Are there any lessons available about seed keeping for older elementary students?

    Thank you,

I use the following resource in my classroom.  However, I am lucky enough to have an onsite prairie restoration garden as well as an area for vegtables.

I don't know if you have heard of the Seeds Exchange, but they will donate seeds Seed Savers.org.  I have the kids read along a couple of chapters a week to a book called Seed Folks that is about a community garden.  Seed Savers also has a lovely page that includes information about seed saving https://www.seedsavers.org/learn

Thank you Laura for the information about Seedsavers!
FYI: I checked the website and they said to check back for donations in January.

One other idea - our local library has a seed exchange program.  This last year my students and began harvesting seeds in our prairie restoration garden for the seed exchange.  They helped me with all the particulars, and am hoping they will be able to meet with the students this year.

Hi Christina! I second @Laura Erlig's recommendation for Seedfolks! We (KidsGardening) created a literature lesson using this book a few years ago. It's geared toward middle and high school but could definitely be adapted for other ages. Some ideas:

Thanks to all the terrific resources! I'm still working my way through all of them. We're going to try to translate some into Spanish and will share when that becomes available.
