    I would like to begin a discussion thread for everyone to share their favorite STEAM-related resources that you have used to support your school food garden programming. Activities, lesson plans, curricula, videos, webinars, etc. – I know there is a lot out there, but I would love to hear about your favorite go-tos in follow up to today's STEAM in the School Food Garden Webinar.     Here in Madison, WI we love Life Lab's 'Science in the Garden' units for K-2! The units are connected to Next Generation Science Standards and have such fun and engaging activities like getting to dress up like a plant in order to learn plant parts. I'm hoping our District will purchase the units so all K-2 students can experience them.

    Thanks Erica and Sarah for sharing these resources.  Life Lab is also getting ready to share a unit for 3-5th grades related to Engineering in the Garden where students design and create pea trellises in the garden.  We developed this 8 lesson unit with BSCS and hope to share this open-source unit this summer.  If you'd like to be on the mailing list for when this unit becomes publicly available please add your email to this list.

    Hi Kim,
    Thanks for the Rooted shout-out (I work for Rooted!) I wanted to mention that we are working on developing a curriculum for Farm to ECE and this should hopefully be on the Rooted website sometime in the next couple of months. And since you are also located in Wisconsin, I have to mention that Wisconsin School Garden Day is coming up on Thursday, May 19!     Hi!
    I am just starting out this school year as a partner with our neighborhood school and their Urban Learning Garden. A lot of the resources that I pull from for our Nature Club after school program come from the Children and Nature Network and Slow Food USA but, thanks to the webinar, I have also pulled several ideas from the Food Corps curriculum resources that we will incorporate into our summer programming in the garden.

    One resource we like to use in our school food gardening programs is the book The School Garden Curriculum: An Integrated K-8 Guide for Discovering Science, Ecology, and Whole-Systems Thinking by Kaci Rae Christopher from Bend, Oregon. (New Society Publishers)

    We also like to introduce teachers to The Children's Kitchen Garden by Georgeanne and Ethel Brennan since STEAM concepts can be connected to cooking as well as gardening. A related resource for teachers is Cooking From the Garden by Rosalind Creasy. Although Creasy writes to a gardener audience, her ideas transfer
    well to the school garden and cafeteria.

    The late Jane Taylor, founder of the 4-H children's garden at Michigan State University, wrote several excellent 4-H bulletins on school food gardening - Heritage Gardening - Vegetables and The Michigan 4-H Guide to Herb Gardening Projects. While her intent at the time was not to use STEAM as an underlying theme, the activities presented provide an appropriate introduction for young children.
