Hi everyone!
I am a Teacher Master Gardener and run the Junior Master Gardener Program on my campus. This is a fun way for kids to learn about gardening, science, and nature while building leadership skills. Here are some of the ways I get my students engaged:
Conversation Starter Ideas
-
If you could grow any plant in the world (even a magical one) what would it be and why? (Encourages imagination and connects to gardening.)
-
What's your favorite thing about being outdoors in the garden? (Helps kids share personal experiences and feelings about nature.)
-
Did you know plants can "talk" to each other? How do you think they do it? (Introduces science in a playful way.)
-
If you were a Junior Master Gardener for a day, what would your first project be? (Gets them thinking about leadership and creativity in gardening.)
-
What's the coolest bug or creature you've ever seen in a garden? (Connects gardening to ecosystems and sparks curiosity.)
-
If we all worked together to create the ultimate kids' garden, what would you want to add to make it fun for everyone? (Encourages collaboration and thinking about shared spaces.)
-
Why do you think compost is called "black gold" for gardens? How does it help plants and the planet? (Connects science with sustainability in a kid-friendly way.)
Here's fun game
Garden Scavenger Hunt: Can you find something green, something that smells good, and something that helps plants grow? (Turns learning into a playful activity.)
I hope this helps in some way.
Enjoy!
