Hey y'all! 👋🏾

Welcome to the South Regional Group! I'm Phyllicia, and I'm excited to help facilitate this space and connect with fellow educators, garden leaders, and youth garden champions from across the South.

I work in Farm to School education in Houston, Texas, where much of my work centers around school gardens, food and agriculture literacy, experiential learning, and creating opportunities for students to understand where their food comes from.

But this space isn't about one person having all the answers. It's about learning from each other.

Whether you manage one garden bed, coordinate gardens across multiple schools, teach students in the garden, run a community program, or are still figuring out how to keep the tomatoes alive in Southern heat 😅-you belong here.

I hope we can use this group to share resources, ask questions, celebrate what's working, troubleshoot what isn't, and learn from what others are doing across our region.

🍀Howdy!

I'm Gabrielle, the Community and School Gardens Extension Educator for Fort Bend AgriLife Extension! My office is located about 30 min southwest of Houston, TX and I currently support about 45 garden programs across my county. Most gardens are at elementary schools, places of worship, and community centers, so my audience ranges from early childhood to 18, as well as their family members.

This year I'm excited to develop educational programs/trainings that strengthen garden sustainability and coordinate a network to increase public awareness of existing and emerging gardens. One of my favorite aspects of my job is supporting educators through the grant-writing process (the KG grant opportunities page is a blessing). I am passionate about this work because I believe that active community involvement in urban agriculture combats the rapid loss of Texas' agricultural land and promotes healthy lifestyles for the whole family.
