  • 1.  Charter / Farm Schools?

    Posted 10-21-2024 01:17:00 PM

I just stumbled upon this charter farm school and am curious what others might exist. Can we create a list of the farm schools for reference? If you know one, comment below.

Anyone here connected with this school? I would love to learn more about what types of gardening programs they have going on.

    Hi Alycia,

Interesting. A friend of mine just sent me their website. This is the first one I am learning about but will most certainly time into this thread if I come across any others.

    Thanks for sharing!

Greetings, thanks for the inquiry about my school, Chattahoochee Hills Charter School. I have served as Principal here for the past 7 years.  If I can share any info or you want to learn more about our school, let me know.

We toured a charter school in June on the RI Farm 2 School and Sea retreat.  They have an excellent program and Gardener/Farmer on staff - https://compassschool.org/ - garden education is a part of their curriculum.

I run the Agricultural Arts program at Mountain Song Community School in Colorado Springs. We are a public Waldorf-inspired charter school, and outdoor ed is a core part of our mission (as is the same with the majority of Waldorf schools around the world). Our Ag Arts program is operated out of our school garden, which has almost 20 raised beds, a 20-foot greenhouse, chickens, fish, a small orchard, and an outdoor oven. We also recently received a generous grant that will allow us to build a 50-foot high tunnel before the end of the year. Ag Arts is a required class for all students. 1st grade participates once a week for 45 minutes, and 2nd - 8th grades participate twice a week for two 45-minute periods each.

I'd be happy to talk with anyone about my role, our program, or what it's like working at a charter school if you wish. I'm also doing a webinar with the SGSO Network on Nov. 20 about some of my curriculum. This would be a great way to learn more about our program as well!
