    Hello Gardeneers,

Does anyone have examples of land acknowledgments to share? I would like to make signs for our school gardens.

    Thanks!

    Hi Christina,

I've heard/seen good land acknowledgements and I've heard/seen ridiculous ones. This is a pretty good guide.

Hi Christina! Thanks for bringing this up here! There was a thread in the School Garden Support Organization Network forum about this recently, too. Can you view that thread linked here? A few examples that were shared are on the sites for Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Grow Pittsburgh. I haven't seen any examples yet that are specifically displayed on signs in gardens but would love to hear/see what others are doing!

    Christina,

I am attending this webinar Thursday on land acknowledgments. Perhaps you would like to join as well.

(Virtual) November 2022 Conservation Café: What is Land Acknowledgment Really All About?
    11/17/2022 - 11/17/2022   TH, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM EST
    Online Session
    Conservation Cafe
Join Rico Newman, Elder of the Choptico Band of Piscataway Conoy, as he acknowledges and thanks the land for its blessings and then teaches about what a land acknowledgment is, who "should" do them, why and how to do them, what it means to do a land acknowledgment well, and what not to do. This talk is geared at a non-Native audience but those with experience and expertise are welcome to contribute their own perspectives as well. VIRTUAL

    Hello,
What a wonderful thread with great resources on here!
Thank you for considering Land Acknowledgement in your school gardens!

This is also a great way to touch on the subjects of history, geography, social studies.
Land acknowledgement and starting a garden bed of native plants that the original inhabitants grew is an impactful way for the students to connect with the land they care for and live on.

I have seen garden sign of something along the lines of:
"We honor & acknowledge the Nuwuvi (Southern Paiute).
The indigenous people of this land. "

Here is a brief on the importance of Land acknowledgment, as well as educational resource links and culturally sensitive activities

Honoring Original Indigenous Inhabitants: Land Acknowledgment

Here is also an app & website - Native Land allows you to plug in any location and see whose land you are standing on:

I will post more resources & links on this topic, as I come across them.
