    Hi All !

Does anyone have a simple seed ball recipe that they love? ( I live in northern MA  and plan to use flower seeds)

I would love to know too. I want to do this with the students next year and utilize shredded paper.

I am planning to follow this website's guidance for an Earth Day project with out preschoolers.  Will use newspaper and food coloring to achieve the colors, hopefully it works!

Here's recipe for seed balls that works great from Alice Water's Edible Schoolyard Project in Berkeley, CA.

    Seed Ball Recipe

    ingredients:

    5 parts soil

    1 part flour

1 to 2 tsp. flower seeds

    directions:

Using a cup to measure, mix 5 parts soil to 1 part flour. Add 1 to 2 tsp. of seeds

Slowly add water a little at a time. Start with 1 part water and combine until it reaches the consistency you want. It should clump together when you squeeze the soil in your hands.

Once you have the consistency you want, shape into golf sized balls. Place finished seed balls on a plate to outside to dry. Once dry, place them in some soil, water and watch grow!

I love making seed balls-it's such a fun and easy project. A simple mix I use is 1 part flower seeds, 3 parts potting soil or compost, and 5 parts clay powder (like air-dry or natural clay you can find at craft stores). Just mix it all together with a little water until it holds its shape, roll into small balls, and let them dry for a day or two. Wildflowers like black-eyed susans, coneflowers, and bee balm do really well here in the northeast.

    Hi Coreen!

Last year I made seed bombs (balls) with your families during a family engagement day.  I'm sharing the slides that have a very easy way to make the balls using shredded and soaked newspaper as the medium.  Good luck! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-TX_ploaUHnQSLmkGjapgniJBYCiSBJwG626GgDx3VU/edit?usp=sharing
