Growing Together: Open Forum

I teach gardening at three schools within my school district. I was approached by a different school (within my district) who is reviving their garden, but at this point is not in the position to hire me. They asked me how much I would be willing to sell my gardening curriculum (that I developed for the other schools) to them for. 

Have any of you been approached with this same question and if so, did you sell your curriculum and how much did you charge?

Hello Ziva,

I just asked another KidsGardening Connector who has sold curriculum. The suggestion is to return the ball in the court of the school, asking about budget, which grade level, content etc.. This way you get an idea what they are thinking and then you can counter with what feels comfortable for you.

Other possibilities are to use a grant for writing the curriculum and giving it for free (which wouldn't help you in this case, but maybe in the future).

Her organization created and sold curriculum for Farmer's Market Programs at $50 each. They also worked with big organizations, for which they created lessons which are cross curricular and have several options for content. These lessons and the rites to these lessons were sold for $1000.

My gardens are hassle free and I told the teachers they wouldn't be expected to water or pull weeds. I would be interested in sharing ideas with you.

I started out as a volunteer in the garden at my daughter's school where I transformed their garden. Nature connection is one of the tenets at her school and they understood the importance of having students garden. The Parent Faculty Association agreed to pay for my position so I was hired by the district. In that time, a few other schools noticed the garden at this school and reached out to me about working there. 

One of the schools who just hired me is creating a new garden (which I am planning). Our district will install the irrigation and help out but the Parent Faculty Association is funding the remaining portions.

I tailor my lesson plans based on the grade and not the teacher. I researched age appropriate lessons and then developed them into how I like to teach them. I have a permaculture background so my lessons are based on that philosophy.
