    Hello!

I am from Ohio and I am interested in starting a gardening group here in our school district (k-12), but I am in the K-5 building.

I don't even know where to start. What grades K-5 would this be more suitable for? And how do I get this going?

Hi Raffaela!  We have a Seeds of Success Toolkit that might be helpful to give you an overview and some basics. You can download it as a free PDF at: https://kidsgardening.org/seeds-of-success-toolkit/

Garden programs work well for every grade level, but will need to be tailored depending on who ends up being your target audience. Searching for supporters may be the best way to get started --- see if you have any teachers and/or parents/caregivers that are especially interested in helping you get a program growing and start there.

Hi Raffaela, I have seen garden groups work out in lots of ways. Finding your most enthusiastic members first is a good way - regardless of their ages. Who's interested? You could also start at grades 3-5 (this is very common in elementary schools) and then branch out as you gain momentum. If you have multiple grade levels, I've seen in work well to have leveled tasks - the littles do simpler tasks, while the older ones do the more physically demanding tasks, that kind of thing. I think the main thing, is just go for it and recognize that you will learn a lot and so will they. Have fun!
