Hi! I am in Western North Carolina. I usually start a winter sowing lesson with my Special Needs/Exceptional Hort. Therapy students after they get back from their Christmas Holidays. I kinda "got started" yesterday too! We held a Christmas Market open to the community at the nonprofit community garden where I teach (among other things!) that served hot cider. They saved me all the empty gallon jugs to plant in. We winter sowed fairly successfully last year too, along with a lesson about the Winter Solstice. We will sow milkweed, and also some native perennials like columbine, black eyed Susan's, and purple coneflowers this year to plant in the Children's Garden that we've been cultivating a little at a time. I do quite a lot of winter sowing myself. There is a great Facebook page called Winter Sowers-The Original that covers the entire process really well, including seed types, soil, drainage, planting seedlings, and different types of containers.

Who's started already? A friend today told me that you can actually winter sowing using ziploc bags, this is a whole lot easier and space saver compared to milk jugs! Anyone care to show pictures of their winter sowing?
