Hi everyone! One of the goals of the Kids Garden Community is to provide more regional and local support. We're asking for your help to build out resource pages!

What are your favorite resources in your state or region??? These can be organizations that support youth gardening, local conferences or events, local funding opportunities, specific curriculum and guides, etc.

    Submit your favorites here.

Note: This is part of the Kids Garden Month Challenge and everyone who submits a resource will be entered to win prizes!

All of the details about Kids Garden Month, the different challenges you can participate in, and the prizes (including a garden bed from Vita!) are on this page.

One funding opportunity that i would HIGHLY recommend schools apply for is the Literacy for Life Grant (https://learnaboutag.org/grants/life/).

"The Literacy for Life grants, sponsored by the Oreggia Family Foundation, are designed to help initiate new projects or expand existing ones that promote agricultural literacy. Grants of up to $750 are provided to California K-12 educators to support the integration of agriculture into regular classroom instruction."

Our school was able to purchase over 60 books for our K-12 Library related to gardening and agriculture, including books explaining how to start a garden, hydroponics 101, seed starting, etc.

Hi! I am from Georgia and we have a fantastic program: Ag in the Classroom through Georgia Farm Bureau . You can access curriculum, book recommendations, and grants/contests. They are affiliated with National Ag in the Classroom, that also offers grants. I received one last year for resources including a ton of books to support Ag Literacy in my classroom and school.

Bonnie cabbage is a third grade only thing. All third graders get a free cabbage plant and then they can even get scholarship money if theirs is the biggest!

An amazing source of information and community building for school gardens is Rooted (www.rootedwi.org):

Rooted in Wisconsin is dedicated to fostering collaborations rooted in food, land, and learning. Their mission is to enable people to grow and thrive in healthy, equitable, and sustainable neighborhoods. They achieve this through various initiatives, including:

    • Community Gardens: Providing spaces for people to grow their own food and connect with nature.
    • Youth Education: Offering programs that educate young people about gardening, nutrition, and environmental stewardship.
    • Troy Farm: Operating an organic farm that supplies fresh produce to the community and serves as a learning hub.
    • Events and Workshops: Hosting community meals, markets, workdays, and educational workshops to engage and support the local community.
